Sales Development Representative
Sales Development Representative
Department: Sales
Reports To: Sales Manager
Employment Type: Full-Time
Compensation: Base Salary + Commission
About the Position
A.M. Leonard is looking for a Sales Development Representative (SDR) to join our Sales team. This position is focused on developing relationships with existing customers and finding opportunities to grow those relationships into long-term business.
The SDR will work with customers who have already purchased from A.M. Leonard, particularly customers whose initial purchases indicate there may be additional business to develop. You will reach out to these customers, learn more about their business and what they need, and help connect them with the products and solutions that make sense for them.
This isn't a position built around simply making calls and reading a script. We are looking for someone who enjoys talking with people, asking good questions, learning about their business, and finding ways to help.
The goal is simple: build the relationship, understand the opportunity, and grow the customer.
What You'll Do
- Reach out to existing customers by phone and email to introduce yourself and build a relationship.
- Learn about the customer's business, their needs, and how they currently purchase products.
- Ask questions and listen for opportunities to provide additional products or services.
- Follow up with customers after their initial purchase to encourage repeat business.
- Review customer purchase history and use that information to identify potential opportunities.
- Recommend products that may be a good fit based on what you learn about the customer.
- Follow up on quotes, product questions, and other opportunities.
- Keep accurate notes and follow-up information in our CRM.
- Stay organized and consistently follow up with customers when promised.
- Identify customers who have the potential to become larger accounts and work with the appropriate Account Manager to develop those opportunities.
- Work with Customer Service, Account Managers, Product Management, and other A.M. Leonard team members to provide a great customer experience.
- Learn our products and industry so you can have knowledgeable and useful conversations with customers.
- Meet established sales and customer-development goals.
- Take ownership of your customer follow-up and results.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
We're looking for someone who is comfortable picking up the phone and talking with customers. You don't have to be a career salesperson, but you should enjoy working with people and have the confidence to start a conversation.
The right person will:
- Have strong communication and listening skills.
- Be comfortable making outbound calls.
- Enjoy building relationships with customers.
- Be curious and willing to ask questions to understand a customer's needs.
- Have a positive, professional, and helpful attitude.
- Be motivated by goals and results.
- Be organized and good at following through.
- Be comfortable learning new products and technology.
- Be able to work independently while also being part of a team.
- Have previous sales, customer service, account management, or related experience. Sales experience is preferred but not required for the right candidate.
Your success will be measured by your ability to turn customer conversations into relationships and relationships into business.
Key measures may include:
- Customer contact and follow-up activity
- Repeat customer purchases
- Growth in sales from assigned customers
- New sales opportunities identified
- Revenue generated through customer development
- Customer engagement and retention
- Quality and consistency of CRM documentation
- Identification of customers with potential for larger account development
This position offers a competitive base salary plus commission. Expected total compensation is approximately $35,000–$55,000 annually, depending on experience and sales performance.
The base salary provides a consistent level of income, while the commission plan gives you the opportunity to increase your earnings as you successfully develop customers and generate additional sales.
The more you help our customers grow with A.M. Leonard, the more opportunity you have to grow your earnings
